Leroux Phantom Stamp by Iron-GibbetStudios Leroux Phantom Stamp by Iron-GibbetStudios
Just in case one didn't exist, I felt it necessary to offer this to those of you who love the original Phantom story.

This stamp of course, features the multi-talented Lon Chaney as Erik, and the beautiful arm of Mary Philbin as Christine.

I also apologize for the language if anyone takes offense to it, it was not intentional. I just thought of the most blunt phrase I could think of! *Chuckles* This is my favourite part in the film and makes for a wonderful button.

Lol. Yeah when Christine was going to do that in the book:
Me: REALLY?! You're willing to kill a whole opera house full of people just so you won't marry a guy who'll show a ton of affection to you for the rest of your days and respect you?!
:)

Why are you getting mad at her? Get mad at Erik for pulling these two options out of his ass!

I got so upset at her for that. I wanted to break away from reality just to yell at her. Sadly, I couldn't do it.

Why's Lonny saying "oh crap"?
Reply
:iconhungergamesfangirl21:
Because in the book and movie, Christine was given a choice. If she turned the scorpion (on the left) She would marry him and everyone would live. But if she turned the grasshopper(the one she has her hand on)... Opera Populaire goes kaboom along with him and everyone else in the opera house.
So basically...
Scorpion = :iconweddingplz: And everyone lives
Grasshopper = :iconexplosionplz: And every one dies.

Well, I knew about the grasshopper and the scorpion, I was just a little confused at what was going on.

Isn't it ironic that the scorpion stands for life and the grasshopper for death?
Because grasshoppers are sort of associated with spring and new life, and scorpions are dangerous and venomous and can kill you with their sting.

:iconhungergamesfangirl21:
IKR? But according to gaston leroux, "The grasshopper jumps jolly high!" and so will the opera house if she chooses the grasshopper.

Glad someone made this! :la: The first version I ever saw of Phantom was this movie with Lon Chaney. Years later, (I was just out of 7th grade, then) I read the book! :dummy: I've heard of the other versions, but I was quite satisfied with the book and the one with Chaney to even bother with the others. :)

It's a novel. But you can watch the Lon Chaney version of it on Youtube. The ending was changed in post-production to suffice angry mobs, but you still get the gist.

Thanks, I'll then look up Lon Chaney.
I've already read the book, and even though it was dark and a bit hard to understand, I still enjoyed finding the source of this wonderful tale!

Sadly, there are exactly three people I know (Locally) who know about that scene. *weeps for lack of knowledge about Leroux* on the upside, one of the english teachers at my school had put Leroux's version on the outside reading list. FINALLY!

I just finished reading Leurox's original novel, and i simply adored it. I honestly must thank you for that, IG. It was rotting away in the back of my closet, untouched, for so long until I started reading RM. (i was feeling so out of the loop, i just had to read the book!)

As for the Lon Chaney movie, I'm trying to round up my family to watch it. Should be epic. :D

I am very glad you enjoyed the novel. It is the single most important thing to me, and it makes me very happy that others can share this love. I hope you'll enjoy the Chaney movie as well. I warn you the ending is ...off. But it's still a fantastic rendition. According to many of the readers here, the original ending was more like the book, but because of the time period, people wanted to see Erik get his "just desserts". Try not to let it get you down, and enjoy the acting. I always get a chuckle out of the drama and the poses.
